WRMR: Whats going on bro hows things?
DJ MOON DAWG:Everything is good fam, can't complain.
WRMR: So Last Week you dropped some big news on the world, you are now a Member of The Aphilliates! Congrats. How did that come about?
DJ MOON DAWG:Thx fam! Well it really all started 2 yrs ago when my buzz started growing as a mixtape DJ in Chicago. Jonathan Jelks from The Aphilliates reached out to me through some mutual acquaintances and wanted me to help introduce Willie The Kid into the Chicago market. So I worked closely with him in accomplishing that and really our relationship grew as we did more & more work together. Eventually that bond led to a Willie The Kid & DJ Head Debiase mixtape and then soon after a DJ Drama mixtape, both of which were highly successful projects. In any event, over the course of 2 yrs our relationship just grew to the point that I was presented with the opportunity to become member of The Aphilliates by the President La The Darkman with the blessing & support of its members. (That is the short & to the point version since I have to type this interview out)
WRMR: Now you represent Chicago, a place in which some great artist came from (ie Common, Kanye, Lupe, Twista etc) what are some new artist that the world needs to look out for?
DJ MOON DAWG:There is a good amount of talent & potential in the artists from Chicago. Off top you have Hot 2 Def aka Dat Boy Hot, John Blu, Moonie from L.E.P., and Bo Deal that are all getting regular spins on the radio. You have cats like Skooda Chose, Mic Terror, Marvo, Naledge from Kidz In The Hall, B.X.C., GLC, The Suppliers, & Mikkey Halsted that are consistently dropping solid material and have a significant buzz. Definitely keep and eye out for these guys but please believe there are more artists in the city that are working hard too.
WRMR: Chicago also being the place where our current president served as US State Senator, how do you feel hes been doing so far in his presidency?
DJ MOON DAWG:I think he's doing the best he can considering what he has to work with in the current political & economical climate.
WRMR: Your Midwest Kush mixtape was a big success and was in all the hot spots for mixtapes! Any plans on making that one of your signature series such as a Gangsta Grillz?
DJ MOON DAWG:
Yeah Midwest Kush is definitely my staple mixtape series brand. I'm really trying to use that series to unify the Midwest and give us a platform to be heard! Going into the future I will be having different artists from different cities colab to cut exclusive records for the mixtape just like I did with Willie The Kid & Naledge from Kidz In The Hall. I'm over here connecting ppl with each other and making our movement stronger. Like I just found out from Naledge yesterday that he & Willie are working on a colab project. That's BIG! I'm just happy to be able to facilitate key relationships like this and to be one of the FEW DJ's at the forefront of the Midwest movement.
WRMR: As a radio DJ & a Mixtape dj, which one do you enjoy doing most?
DJ MOON DAWG:I enjoy them both equally really! They really compliment each other because I can't drop F-bombs on the radio but on a mixtape I can talk some shit and put together a quality product and give it to the ppl. On the flip side, I can do funny/entertaining bits & interviews, and interact with millions of people on a weekly basis that you can't really do with a mixtape.
WRMR: The midwest as a whole, really never got the proper recognition as alot feel we should! What do you think it will take in order for the midwest to be the forefront in hip-hop?
DJ MOON DAWG:It's gonna take some more unification within the region among its DJ's & artists. The more we all network, colab, and support each other, the better off we all will be. Then just also get out and network outside of region with east coast, southern, west coast DJ's & artists to expand beyond our borders. Its a process but it can be done.
WRMR: What are your top 5 hot song at the moment?
DJ MOON DAWG:Soulja Boy-Pretty Boy Swag
Hot 2 Def-Up & Down
Waka Flocka-Hard In The Paint
Robin Thicke-Its In The Morning
Rick Ross-Super High
WRMR: So what's next for DJ MOON DAWG?
DJ MOON DAWG:Just continue to work hard, be an innovator, and the young trendsetter that is needed
WRMR: Thanks for the interview, any last words?
DJ MOON DAWG:Shouts to my Aphilliate Family! La, Drama, Sense, Head Debiase, Holiday, Stix Malone, Jelks...much love! Chi-city whassup! My whole WGCI radio family...and to everyone who has supported & believed in me since day one. I got nothing but the utmost love & respect for you! Shouts to you for the interview fam, thx!
